Individual Light Mood with Flexible LED Strips.

LED Star Strip WarmDIM & Tunable White in Comparison.

LED Star Strip WarmDIM & Tunable White in Comparison

Not only for home they are super fancy and practical, also in hotels, bars or restaurants LED strips are often used. The lighting mood can be adjusted individually to different situations. This is exactly the feature that the two LED strips WarmDIM and Tunable White have in common. They can both be controlled in their colour temperature and luminous flux. But what are the differences between the two strips? We will take a closer look at the differences now.

Comparison of Appearance

At first, the LED Star Strip WarmDIM and the Tunable White Star Strip look similar. Both have two different LED chips each on their printed circuit board ("PCB"), which represent the warm white and neutral white colour temperature. At a second look, one difference may catch the eye: the number of LEDs per meter and the associated distance between the LEDs ("pitch").

The Tunable White Strip has a pitch of 14.3 mm with 140 LEDs/m. The WarmDIM Strip even offers 168 LEDs/m with a LED pitch of 11.9 mm. Despite the small but fine difference, both LED strips provide a very homogeneous light.

Comparison of Technology

One point of main technical difference is the number of contact points. On the board of WarmDIM, there are only two contact points each on the width of the PCB. There, the strip is supplied with power and controlled via two lines. This allows a super easy handling, because the colour temperature is automatically adjusted as well when dimming: The darker the light, the warmer it gets – and it works the other way as well. Any single-channel dimmer or dimmable driver can be used, no matter if DALI, Casambi or Radium phase cut driver.

In contrast to the WarmDIM, the Tunable White Strip has three contact points (or four, due to the common plus contact) which should be supplied with power and controlled. The advantage here is the flexible control option: Not only warm and cool white can be controlled separately, but the colour temperature can also be adjusted independently of the luminous flux. This requires an appropriate driver with at least two output channels and a suitable control unit.

Tip: In an installation in DALI 2 standard, one DALI address is sufficient for colour temperature control when using a Tunable White Strip.

Purchase Recommendation

If you like to have a simple LED lighting system which is great for general lighting and cozy after-work lighting, you should choose the WarmDIM LED Strip. In combination with the Radium phase cut driver, the WarmDIM Strip makes an incredibly simple and inexpensive option for adapting the light atmosphere.

For especially targeted, individual control for example for Human Centric Lighting concepts we rather recommend the LED Strip Tunable White due to its diverse varied control options. This is also available as an Essence variant.
