Flexible lighting for Outdoors, too!
Flexible LED strips appear simple but stylish in a wide variety of applications. Whether on the terrace for decorative illumination, on the stairs as orientation lighting or as an eye-catcher on the building facade. The strips are ideal for any project.
When using LED strip lighting for outdoors, it is of course important to have adequate protection of the strips against various external influences. There are so-called degrees of protection, which are defined by means of IP codes ("International Protection Codes" or "Ingress Protection Codes"). They indicate the extent to which the penetration of foreign bodies and moisture is prevented.
The IP code is composed as follows:
The letters "IP" are in front, followed by two digits.
The first digit stands for the protection against penetrating foreign objects, such as dust or insects. The second digit stands for the protection against water. The higher each of the two digits, the higher the protection.
But what IP protection is required for the outdoor use of LED strips?
For outdoor use in covered areas, IP44 protection is quite common. The LED Strip is thus protected against the ingress of splash water from all around.
When installing in places where the LED Strip is exposed to rainfall and other precipitation, such as on an uncovered house wall, we recommend at least IP65 protection. This means the strip is protected from all-round jets of water. If this is not yet sufficient for your application, choose a strip with protection class IP67. It can even be submerged one meter deep under water for up to 30 minutes.
