The long-awaited review of EU directives 244/2009 [DIM1, 'ban of incandescent lamps'], 1194/2012 [DIM2, i.a. for reflector lamps] and 245/2009 [TIM, for professional lighting/ tertiary sector] is published now with no. EU 2015/1428. Furthermore, the rules of bringing-into-the-market still apply:

• Trade may sell off existing stock and customers may use their lamps in stock.
• BUT: Newly manufactured lamps are only allowed to be sold with CE marking, if they meet all EU-requirements (standards and directives).

The main topics to focus on:

• - Mains voltage halogen lamps with standard shape bulbs (e.g. standard, tube, drop, candle) will be banned from September 1st 2018.
• - Mains voltage reflector lamps (e.g. PAR-lamps with GU10-, E14- or E27-base) from September 1st 2016!
• - The definition of special lamp has become standardised and more stringent, so that e.g. rough service GLS are not special lamps any more.
• - For high pressure discharge lamps the affected wattage ranges have been reduced regarding service life requirements, so fewer lamps are affected: Metal halide lamps over 405W and sodium vapour lamps over 605W are OK.
• - Luminaires with changeable light source included must be delivered with a light source showing at least energy label A+ (from Sept 1st 2016).
