Compact fluorescent lamps (CFL), also known as energy-saving bulbs, were the energy-efficient alternative to traditional incandescent bulbs for many years. In the meantime, LEDs have replaced them in many applications. Those who replace existing fluorescent lamps with LEDs benefit from higher energy efficiency, higher-quality light, and a longer service life. To ensure a smooth transition, several characteristics should be checked before purchasing, such as the base, luminous flux, light color, beam angle, size, and design of the lamp.
However, one thing is particularly important: Is the lamp suitable for the luminaire’s operating mode?
In many cases, compact fluorescent lamps can simply be replaced on a one-to-one basis with compatible LED lamps. However, some luminaires are operated with a conventional control gear (CCG) or an electronic control gear (ECG), which must be compatible with the LED lamp. A quick look at the technical specifications of the luminaire and the LED lamp will help you select the right light source. If the LED lamp does not have the same operating mode as your luminaire, retrofitting the luminaire is usually necessary.
If you want to skip the compatibility check and luminaire retrofitting while also saving storage space, choose Radium’s universal EM lamps:
Our LED DUO and LED TRIO lamps make both selection and installation easier thanks to their universal bases. Both lamp types feature a 2-pin base (G24d or GX24d) for CCG-operated luminaires, which also fits into the 4-pin sockets for ECG-operated fixtures. To operate the ECG luminaires, you simply need to remove or bypass the ballast so that the lamp is powered directly at 230V. This gives you a universal lamp for three types of luminaires:

Did you know? Another advantage of our LED DUO, LED TRIO, as well as LONG and TWIN lamps is their high-quality glass design, which – just like traditional compact fluorescent lamps – enables a 360° beam angle. This ensures even greater efficiency, especially in luminaires with reflectors.
