Ban of the T8 fluorescent tube?

Effects of the Single Lighting Regulation (Regulation (EU) No. 2019/2020).

Ban of the T8 fluorescent tube

With the Single Lighting Regulation (SLR), the EU will impose new and stricter requirements on light sources for the European market from September 2021. After the measures of the previous EU directives TIM and DIM have been completed, those of the SLR will now come into force step by step in order to ban further inefficient lamps from the EU market and thus reduce energy consumption.

Among others, the popular dichroic mirror lamps will already be affected in autumn 2021. From September 2023, the popular T8 fluorescent lamps with a diameter of 26mm will be phased out:

The T8 lamps in the standard lengths 600mm (18W), 1200mm (36W) and 1500mm (58W) will no longer be able to meet the EU requirements, so the trade will only be allowed to sell off existing remaining stocks.

Some T8 lamps in special lengths for special applications, such as the 30W, 36W (1000mm version) and 38W, however, are still permitted. You can find out exactly which radium types these are here.

Dealers and end users should prepare for the lamp phase-out at an early stage:

Some fluorescent lamps are not yet available as LED versions, such as dimmable or -T8 tubes compatible with emergency power supplies. Please contact us if you would like to replenish your stock with fluorescent tubes once more. Please note that an early order is advantageous for us being able to deliver the lamps in your desired quantity.

Otherwise, we recommend switching to fitting LED tubes. Now, these do offer more and more advantages in comparison to fluorescent tubes:

LEDs have a significantly lower energy consumption - so you can save up to 60% energy with Radium LED tubes. In addition, they are particularly durable with a service life of 60,000 hours. In contrast to the fluorescent lamp, the LED version offers a quick, flicker-free start and does also have a high luminous flux and homogeneous light distribution even at low ambient temperatures.
